David Card, Vice President of Research at Gigaom Research, compares the findings of the 2014 Cloud Computing Survey (produced by North Bridge in collaboration with Gigaom and 72 collaborators), with the results of a poll taken at the annual Gigaom Structure conference on June 18-19, 2014. The poll asked the same questions as the survey.
Card reports a number of variances in responses from Structure attendees, mainstream survey respondents and companies at the “leading edge” – the early technology adopters identified by the survey. Specifically, Card noted differences in the kind of business functions that were being moved to the cloud, with leading edge companies more likely to migrate key processes than the mainstream. Unsurprisingly, attendees at Structure were more likely to migrate processes linked to development.
